What Counts as a Competitor
In scope:
- Independent salons
- Home-based licensed groomers
- Newly opened businesses
- Corporate chains (e.g., Petco Grooming)
Out of scope (deliberately excluded):
- Mobile groomers — different clientele/niche (convenience-driven, often higher price tolerance for house-call service); Kendra’s salon isn’t positioned to compete for that customer.
- Veterinary hospitals with grooming — grooming is a secondary/medical-adjacent service for them, not their core business; not a like-for-like competitor.
If a new business is found during enrichment that falls into an excluded category, note it in competitor-roster with status “Excluded” and the reason, rather than deleting it — keeps the research trail intact.
